Crackling Vinyl presents - 'Y Niwl' and 'Sam Airey'

Crackling Vinyl presents an intimate show at a stunning Georgian Warehouse alongside the Shropshire Union Canal.

After a year on the road as Gruff Rhys' touring band, Y Niwl bring their thrilling psychedelic surf instrumentals to Telfords Warehouse for the first time. Their debut album, Y Niwl, was named The Sunday Times Album of the Week on 2nd January 2011 and was lauded by both the NME, Drowned in Sound and Louder Than War ("intriguing Welsh twangers with charming disheveled energy and a knack of capturing the dark heart of the magnificent Shadows. Such a great band").

The Manic Street Preachers' Nicky Wire has just recommended them in NME as one of his tips for 2012: "Saying that, I do love Y Niwl, who are a Welsh language surf band who've been backing Gruff Rhys. I'm obsessed with them, it's really Joe Meek." And the Mayor of New York liked them enough to include them in a list of his favourite music of 2011.

The track Undegpedwar is currently being used as the theme tune to the BBC television show Football Focus.

"Y Niwl live in the mountains and they're the world's highest altitude post-surf band. They sound like post-rockers gatecrashing a Tarantino soundtrack." - Gruff Rhys

Supporting Y Niwl will be Anglesey's Sam Airey. Sam's remarkable songs bring to mind Bonnie Prince Billy or Bon Iver. There's a compelling depth to his fingerpicked guitar and timeless vocals. Sam recently recorded a session for Huw Stephens' Radio 1 show at the BBC's legendary Maida Vale studios and has been receiving daytime airplay on the same station early in 2012.

The remainder of the night will be soundtracked by our peerless DJ's, playing you a bold and passionate selection of their favourite records.

Chester's excellent 2nd hand record emporium, Grey 'n' Pink, will be hosting a stall of (mainly) 60's / psych / garage albums and singles.

And there will be plenty of excellent guest beers on tap.

Please mail me back if you have any questions.

And cast your eyes over what we have coming up in the Spring of 2012…

'Isis is you Sis' & 'Hecate Tango' - Performance Storytelling at Aberystwyth Arts Centre

7th February 2012

15th February 2012

Delve into the classics, take your aversion to wavy hems firmly in hand,
and embark on tango lessons in the desert...

Teetering precariously between the sharply hilarious and the devastatingly provocative, Xanthe Gresham brings a double bill of goddesses: ‘Isis is You Sis’ and ‘Hecate Tango’ to Aberystwyth Arts Centre on the 15th of February 2012.

Described as ‘The Aerial Artiste of the spoken word’, Xanthe presents herself as the fool of the world, in a performance that deals as much with wigs, a pregnant cat and the strange things people get up to in search of love and happiness, as…
